Narrator: Cesar Millan is back in Asia, seeking a new recruit.
His search started with ten of the region’s best trainers. Last week in Taiwan…
Cesar (clip): Let’s get moving.
Narrator: Genie bravely battled the elements, but it was Natt’s fun-yet-firm approach that earned her the last spot in the semi-final.
Now it’s down to the top four. They’ll face off in a rescue mission—saving shelter dogs from a life behind bars.
The two recruits who stand out will progress to the finale in Los Angeles.
Scene 1 — Training Base, Singapore
[Music / Applause]
Narrator: In Singapore, the four semi-finalists meet Cesar and Ethan at the training base.
Cesar: Congratulations on making it to the semi-final. Now it’s time to step up.
For your next challenge, each of you will be assigned a rescue dog that needs a new home. The dogs are on the way to the day-care facility. Let’s go.
Narrator: Some recruits have experience in shelters; others don’t. Either way, they have only 48 hours to work with their dog before a progress test.
Scene 2 — Natt meets “Boy” (food aggression)
Narrator: Natt is assigned Boy, calm at first—but a different story around food.
Natt: I volunteer in rescue in Bangkok. We catch stray dogs and rehabilitate them.
My purpose is to educate people how to treat animals properly, so dogs can have a forever home.
Narrator: Boy attacks anyone who gets too close to his meals.
Natt: Most of the rescue dogs I deal with have food aggression. I think I know how to handle it.
Natt (working): I’m approaching slowly… I’m blocking him.
The goal is to block—not push. Slowly entering his space… he walks off. That’s a good start.
Cesar: That was too soft. Boy isn’t going to back away from that kind of energy.
Cesar (to Natt): What do you think is stopping you right now?
Natt: I’m trying to figure it out. I’ve done this before—what’s wrong with me?
Maybe it’s the pressure. It’s the semi-finals. Only two seats left, and Cesar’s here. I want to win—for everybody.
Narrator: To have a shot at the finale, Natt needs to focus on what she can control: her own energy.
Scene 3 — Derek meets “Champ” (three-legged, fearful)
Narrator: Cesar introduces Derek to his rescue case: Champ, a three-legged dog with a painful past.
Derek: I suspect Champ was caught in a trap. Imagine the pain—he may have chewed off the paw to escape.
He has zero trust in humans.
Derek: I’ll use scent to get his attention—let him look at me first. I’m starting with building trust.
Cesar: Offering food isn’t always the fastest way to help a dog move forward.
With Champ, we want him to see the world as a bright, new day—he’s been rescued.
Derek: My goal right now is simple: get him moving from here to there.
Narrator: Derek’s approach begins from sympathy. It isn’t wrong—but Champ needs confidence and forward motion.
Scene 4 — Eric meets “Nunu” (aggressive when handled)
Narrator: Next door, Eric is assigned Nunu, a Chow Chow–Poodle mix.
She’s been adopted twice before, but returned both times because she becomes aggressive when touched.
Eric: I want to get closer to Nunu so she can trust me.
First, I’ll get her comfortable with the muzzle—treats inside.
Cesar: Good. I want to see you doing that… there we go.
Narrator: Nunu can shift from playful to biting fast.
Cesar: I want a firm position. Don’t let the dog escape. I want to see you in action.
Eric: When I feel the dog calming, I touch and test—carefully—so we learn what triggers her.
Cesar: Exactly. If she shows sensitivity, memorize it. Next time, touch more slowly—step by step.
Narrator: With the muzzle on, they can safely build positive handling.
Cesar: Good job. The dog is associating the muzzle with something positive—and everyone stays safe.
Scene 5 — Lester meets “Roxie” (dog-aggressive, feud with Rooney)
Narrator: Lester is paired with Roxie, a former breeding dog who fights other dogs—especially her archenemy Rooney.
Lester: I connect with rescue dogs because I came from a broken family. My dad abandoned us.
I want to help dogs have a better life.
Lester: My plan is to teach Roxie to ignore Rooney’s behavior.
Lester (as dogs react): Stop there… you see?
My correction is to snap her out of that intensity.
Lester: Let’s stop this madness.
Day 2 — Progress and pressure
Natt regains confidence with Boy
Narrator: It’s day two, and Natt needs confidence against Boy’s food aggression.
Natt: Today I feel pressure. If I do it wrong, he will definitely bite me.
But I have to step in and claim the space.
Cesar: The magic ingredient is confidence.
Narrator: Natt’s timing and firmness improve—especially in front of Cesar.
Eric takes Nunu to a grooming salon
Narrator: At a grooming salon, Eric helps Nunu tolerate her least favorite thing: a professional groomer.
Eric: The muzzle is important—for human safety and dog safety.
Narrator: Eric checks for sensitive spots first.
Eric: She’s sensitive here… 100%.
Narrator: The plan: trim the sensitive areas last to prevent escalation.
Narrator: It’s Nunu’s first time in a real salon. She isn’t fully relaxed—but she’s managed.
Cesar: Very good.
Lester works the “pack walk” with Roxie and Rooney
Narrator: At the park, Lester tries to maintain a truce while walking Roxie and Rooney.
Narrator: A helper, Dexter, hesitates—triggering tension.
Cesar (or Ethan): The moment you hesitate, the dogs feel it, and it can trigger a fight.
Narrator: Lester corrects, refocuses, and keeps the pack moving.
Cesar (or Ethan): Nice. That’s way better. Practice this almost every day—eventually they can be friends.
Lester: I feel good about the final test. Dexter got the message—and he was having fun doing it.
Derek builds Champ’s confidence with other dogs
Narrator: Back at the center, Derek introduces Champ to another dog to spark curiosity and movement.
Derek: I want to see what motivates him.
Narrator: Champ allows the other dog close—no panic. He explores, walks, and pushes himself.
Cesar: That’s a victory for you. Good job.
Derek: Tomorrow, I’m going to win it for the shelter dogs.
Final Test — Teaching volunteers (after 48 hours)
Narrator: After 48 hours of rehabilitation, it’s time for the recruits’ final test—teaching volunteers how to handle each dog safely.
Natt’s test: remove a bone from Boy safely
Narrator: Natt must teach volunteer Jasper how to safely remove a bone from Boy.
Natt: Claim the bone… “Leave it.” Perfect—like a teacher.
Now it’s your turn. Remember: don’t force it—use the right energy.
Narrator: Boy responds well. Natt’s coaching is clear and confident.
Derek’s test: get Champ moving beyond the kennel
Narrator: Derek must show a volunteer how to help Champ experience the world outside the kennel.
Derek: Don’t call him from the kennel—first get his attention.
Good… that’s a good boy.
Narrator: Derek uses food placement to encourage movement while monitoring remotely.
Derek: I’ll leave food in different areas so he chooses to walk there.
Narrator: Champ moves. He looks more comfortable. The next step is doing it with a person present.
Lester’s test: guide a volunteer on walking Roxie and Rooney
Narrator: Ethan plays the role of a new volunteer. Dexter must guide him walking Roxie and Rooney in the rain.
Dexter: Keep the leash short—but not tight. If there’s aggressiveness, we stop and prevent a fight.
Narrator: The handling needs a little polish, but the teaching is improving.
Ethan (teasing): I don’t think they’re enemies. I think you’re lying to me.
Narrator: The dogs have a calm moment—progress.
Eric’s test: teach safe bathing for Nunu
Narrator: Eric must teach volunteer Rena how to safely wash Nunu.
Eric: Muzzle first—for safety. Let me demonstrate.
Step on the leash, then move slowly. Let the dog see your hand.
From the bottom… slightly up. If she doesn’t want it, stop.
Eric: I’m not teaching brushing today—too much stress.
We’ll use warm water and gentle towel work—slow on the back.
Narrator: Eric coaches observation—watching Nunu’s face and breathing for signs of stress.
[Applause]
Results — Who advances to Los Angeles?
Narrator: Every dog has made progress—but only two recruits advance.
Cesar: We need somebody who can train people and rehabilitate dogs.
Your mission was to help rescue dogs find new homes. Each of you made major progress—but only two can go through to the finale.
Cesar (summary):
